Walk2Tuk4Kids

Travel industry friends and I walked close to 160 km from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk, NWT, over four days (May 17 - 20) to raise over $10,000 for the two schools, one in Inuvik and the other in Tuktoyaktuk.   The main promoters were Air North (@flyairnorth), The Travel Group (@thetravelgroup), and our very own organization, F.I.T. (Friends in Travel YVR) which runs its own fund-raiser for Vancouver's Downtown Eastside causes every June.

The event was a great success: we raised way over our $10K target, and as this is being written donations are still flowing in.  (thank you everyone who sponored this old guy!)

The teachers and student of both schools came out to meet us - a very moving experience in itself, as they were so thrilled to get such attention from out of territory.  And the walk, although incredibly grueling, proved to be a highlight of my life.  Early spring, and before the invasion of mosquitoes, is an amazing time to see the tundra spring back to life.  Wildlife is visible everywhere along the Inuvik>Tuk highway.  I would highly recommend a road trip along this spectacular route during the mid-May to early June period.  I am told that the early fall (August-Sept.) is equally impressive for the autumn foliage.  Another thing to add to everyone's bucket list!
